Walter Washington, who’s occupation was a carpenter, was the eldest
child of Nelson and Linnie Robertshaw. He was born in 1879 in Ontario,
Canada and moved to Port Huron, Michigan with his family just a few years
later. It was there that he met and married Anna LaPage (b. 1884 in Michigan)
in
January 1903. The two had six children together - all born in Port
Huron:
1. Clarence Walter (b. December 1903 - d. 1979). Clarence married
Clemens “Clemmy” Cottrell in 1932. They had no children.
2. Evelyn Elizabeth (b. 1905 - d. 1999). Evelyn never married
and had no children.
3. Lucy (b. and d. 13 Dec. 1906)
4. Dorothy Anna “Dodo” (b. 1908 - d. 1991). Dorothy married Ronald
Hurley and had one child - Mary Louise “Marylou.” Dorothy and Ronald possibly
eloped.
5. Jean Marie (b. 1915 - d. 1990). Jean married Charles Maes
and the two had four children of their own.
6. Genevieve (still living). Genevieve married George Culp
and raised two daughters. They also have three grandchildren. They still
live in the same house that Genevieve’s father, Walter, had built for the
newlyweds over 60 years ago.
This family of Robertshaws had stayed, for the most part, in Port Huron,
and most of the dearly departed loved one’s are buried there in Mt. Hope
Cemetery.
