The Children of George and Maggie Robertshaw

    The first of their children that I know of is Hannah May - who went by her middle name of ‘May’ - b. 1 May 1873 in Ontario, Canada. She married Louis/Lewis J. Whitehead (b. 1872) sometime in the late 1890’s in Port Huron.
The two adopted one child named George. I have good reason to believe that George is the biological son of Hannah’s sister, Minerva. There is a letter to Santa Claus from a nine year old Georgie Robertshaw that was printed in the Port Huron Daily Times Herald newspaper on 11 Dec 1902. Georgie’s address is listed as 913 Rawlins - the same address as Hannah and her husband at the time. Why the Robertshaw name? Well, on George’s death certificate from 1960, his father is listed as being ‘unknown’ while his mother is listed as being Minnie Morehead. In 1907, Minerva Robertshaw married Orville Morehead (see below). But, 1907 was about 15 years after George’s birth! I suspect that Minnie may have had George out of wedlock - a distinct ‘no no’ at that time - and sister Hannah might have offered to raise the little guy, and then eventually adopting him.
By the way, all of the age info I have on George (death certificate, newspaper, and census) all seem to agree and go along with my conclusion.
    Back to Hannah: she passed away in 1938 from a cerebral hemorrhage, with her husband dying just one year later.
The next child of George and Maggie’s, Minerva “Minnie,” was born in 1875 in Ontario. She married a man by the name of Orville Morehead in 1907 in Port Huron. They then moved south to Detroit where they had three children together: Louis (b. ca 1908), Thelma (b. ca 1911), and Roy/Ray (b. ca 1914). Except for the George story above, I have no further info on this particular family as of yet.
    The third child on the list for George and Maggie was Victoria. She was born in Ontario in 1877. The only other bit of info I have on Victoria is that she had an illegitimate child in 1898 - father unknown.
Next we have Betsy Ann, who was born in Ontario in 1879. That’s it on her.
Following Betsy Ann was Margaret Maria in 1882.
George and Maggie’s 6th child, Corabelle, was born in Port Huron in abt 1884. She married Frank Duffy (b. ca 1884) in 1905. A far as I know, they never had any children.
    George and Maggie’s last child, Jenny, b. 1886 in Port Huron, never knew her mother. That’s pretty much all I know on Jenny.
    An interesting fact here is that George’s mother, Mary, being the mid wife that she was, attended the birth of a number of George and Maggie’s children.
