My 5th great grandmother,
Mary Franklin, married a man named William Raby.
That is a fact. What I’m not 100% sure of is the date of her husband’s
birth. The only William Raby to fit the bill was born 33 years before Mary,
but Sandra, the English genealogist, says in this particular place and
time (we’re talking 18th century here!) marriage was more out of convenience
and necessity rather than for love in many cases, which I myself had also
read, and if William had a bit more security to offer Mary than another
suitor, why would Mary (or her father) turn that down?
This also may explain why, in an age when most families were quite large, William and Mary only had two children together. One more thing. Another genealogist following the Raby line independently (and for at least 25 years before me), Bert Raby, had also come up with the same conclusion, but, like me, has not given up on finding another possible William. We both, however, agree whole heartedly on Mary.
Now, onto the Franklin lineage….
and now, let’s continue the Franklin line…
That is everything I have on my direct Franklin line.
