Mary Franklin

My 5th great grandmother, Mary Franklin, married a man named William Raby. That is a fact. What I’m not 100% sure of is the date of her husband’s birth. The only William Raby to fit the bill was born 33 years before Mary, but Sandra, the English genealogist, says in this particular place and time (we’re talking 18th century here!) marriage was more out of convenience and necessity rather than for love in many cases, which I myself had also read, and if William had a bit more security to offer Mary than another suitor, why would Mary (or her father) turn that down?
This also may explain why, in an age when most families were quite large, William and Mary only had two children together.
One more thing. Another genealogist following the Raby line independently (and for at least 25 years before me), Bert Raby, had also come up with the same conclusion, but, like me, has not given up on finding another possible William. We both, however, agree whole heartedly on Mary.

                                   Now, onto the Franklin lineage….
I will begin this part of my heritage with a quick rundown of how I am descended from the Franklin surname:

Kenneth Giorlandossssssssssss
 son of
Marcella Wessell
daughter of
Pearl Robertshaw
daughter of
 John Robertshaw
son of
Lindsey Raby
daughter of
William Raby
son of
Robert Raby
son of
Mary Franklin

and now, let’s continue the Franklin line…
Mary Franklin  b. 3 May 1763 in Weldon, England  -  d. 3 Jan 1835, the wife of William Raby, was the daughter of John Franklin  b. 29 May 1732 in Weldon, and Mary (of whose maiden name I have yet to find)  b. abt 1740.
John was the second of five children of John Franklin  b. 1 May 1709 in Weldon  -  d. 9 June 1765, and Sarah Plumb b. abt 1710. John and Sarah were married on the 8 Oct 1730.
This John was the 6th of eight kids of William Franklin  b. bef 1672  -  d. 10 Dec 1727, and of a mother whose total being cannot, at this time, be found. But, both of William’s parents were found!
His father was also named William Franklin  b. abt 1630 in Weldon  -  d. 4 Jan 1711, and his mother, Marie \ Mary (both pronounced as ‘Mary’) Flower  b. ca 1630’s   -  d. 22 Oct 1701. The two were wed on 18 Jan 1654. William’s father’s name was Thomas Franklin  b. ca 1600.

That is everything I have on my direct  Franklin line.
